Tequila Facts About Don Julio 1942

Don Julio 1942 is an agave-based tequila that has been produced in Mexico since 1942. It’s made by using the blue Agave tequlia plant, which grows naturally in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The tequila is aged for at least three years before being bottled.

The name “Don Julio” comes from the Mexican town where it was first produced.

The company was founded by José María Pechuga y Sánchez de la Barra, who named his new business after himself. He wanted to make a tequila with a distinctive taste and smooth finish. In fact, he chose the name because he thought it sounded good when spoken aloud.

The company’s founder, José González de la Garza y Arreola, named his brand after himself. He wanted to honor his hometown of San Miguel del Padrón, Jalisco, Mexico, where he grew up.

The recipe has been kept secret since its creation.

Don Julio 1942 is made using 100% blue agave plants grown in Jalisco, Mexico. It takes approximately two years for the plant to mature enough to harvest. After harvesting, the agaves are cooked at high temperatures until they become soft. Then, they are crushed and fermented. Finally, the juice is distilled twice before being bottled.

The first tequila made in Jalisco, Mexico was produced in 1847 by Jose Maria Guadalupe de Garcia y Herrera. He named his brand after the town where he grew up, San Miguel de Gualala. In 1862, he moved to Mazatlan, Mexico and began producing tequila at his home. His family later sold the business to the Bacardí family.

A taste Test.

I was sent a bottle of Don Julio 1942 to try out. I had never tried this brand before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I poured myself a glass and took a sip. It tasted very smooth with hints of vanilla and caramel.
